A lodge waitress on the phone with her mother at sunset says she watched a massive, dark-furred Bigfoot stride through the forest behind employee housing at Lake Crescent Lodge in 2006.
Terra Filmer-Larson was 21 and working a summer season at the lodge in Olympic National Park, Clallam County, Washington. She submitted her account to the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO) on August 31, 2026, twenty years after the encounter. The group rated it Class A, a category for clear sightings where misidentification of other animals can be ruled out with greater confidence.
Terra’s Account of the Dusk Sighting
By her best estimate, it happened in late August 2006, on her day off. She was sitting on the back steps of the employee housing building, facing thick old-growth forest, and talking to her mother on the phone.
According to her report, she started a sentence, trailed off, and began hyperventilating. Her mother heard her whisper, “I can’t move.”
About 40 yards away, a massive, dark-furred figure with long, swinging arms was moving fast across her view. It was not coming straight at her. She noticed no sound and no smell, the light was dim, and it never looked her way.
Terra ran off crying, then stopped and turned back out of curiosity. The figure was already gone.
She is certain it was not a bear. She says she has been around plenty of them and they cannot move like that. After later seeing the famous Patterson film, she told BFRO investigator Matt Moneymaker that the creature moved just like the subject of that footage.
What the BFRO Says and What Is Missing
Moneymaker interviewed Terra at length and found her highly credible. What struck her most, he wrote, was how easily the figure crossed ground packed with fallen logs, sword ferns, and brush, faster than a person could. He also described it as moving “as if it was on a mission.”
He recalls that BFRO expeditions on the north side of Lake Crescent between 2006 and 2009 heard sounds and found tracks. He also says employees there mentioned that Lake Crescent Lodge workers had reportedly seen similar creatures, though he does not cite specific cases.
There is no photo, video, or physical trace. This is one witness recalling a few seconds of a scene in fading light, two decades later. By Terra’s account, her mother heard her panic, but her mother did not see anything herself.
Terra also notes the dim light, and the BFRO’s own guidelines describe poor lighting as a Class B circumstance, which skeptics may raise. Moneymaker also directs the BFRO, so his assessment comes from inside the Bigfoot research world. Skeptics might point to a bear, a person, or a trick of dusk light and memory, though Terra rejects the bear idea outright.
Still, the report offers a named witness, a precise location, and a second person who heard her panic in real time. Moneymaker says the protected forest looks much as it did in 2006 and suggests the lodge could put trail cameras behind the building. Until footage turns up, it stands as a reminder that the back steps of a lodge can make for a very eventful spot to take a phone call.
