Libra New Moon Ritual: A Simple 20-Minute Reset Before Samhain

The new moon on October 10 falls in Libra, and it lands at a perfect time for anyone who wants a fresh start before winter.

In traditional astrology, Libra is the sign of balance, fairness, and relationships. A new moon is the start of the lunar cycle, so it has long been treated as a time for planting seeds. Put those two ideas together and you get a moon that favors fixing lopsided commitments and finishing unfinished business.

The timing adds another layer. Samhain arrives on October 31, and many witches treat it as the end of the year. That puts this new moon about three weeks out, which is just enough runway to clear the decks before the season turns. You don’t need to own a single crystal to try this. All you need is a pen, some paper, and about 20 minutes.

Step 1: Set the Space

Pick an evening and dim the lights. Light a candle if you like the atmosphere, and grab a pen and paper. The exact hour of the peak doesn’t matter much. The moon is considered “new” for a couple of days on either side, so any time that evening works.

Step 2: Release First

Before you ask for anything new, make room. Write down two or three things you want to let go of before winter. It could be a habit, a grudge, or a project that has been stalled for months.

This is where the Libra theme earns its keep. Look for places where give and take got out of balance. Maybe you carry more than your share in a friendship, or you keep saying yes to something that drains you. Those count.

Step 3: Write Your Intentions

Now pick one to three intentions, and no more. Write them in the present tense and keep them specific. “I finish the first draft by Dec 1” works far better than “I want to be more productive.” A vague wish gives you nothing to check later. A specific one gives you a date and a result.

Step 4: Add One Action per Intention

This is the part that keeps the ritual from turning into wishful thinking. Give each intention one concrete step you can take this week. Not someday, this week. If your intention is to finish a draft, the action might be blocking out two hours on Saturday morning.

Step 5: Close It Out

Read your list aloud once. Then deal with your “release” paper. You can burn it in a fireproof dish, and please be careful about that, or you can simply tear it up. Keep the intentions somewhere you will actually see them, like on the fridge or tucked into your planner.

Step 6: Check Back at the Full Moon

Mark October 26 on your calendar. That full moon is the traditional time to review what has moved and what hasn’t. Don’t treat it as a grade. Treat it as a checkpoint. If something stalled, you can adjust the action and try again.

If you would rather not copy all of this onto scratch paper, we put the whole ritual on a single printable page. It has room for your release list, up to three intentions with one action each, and a check-in box for October 26.

Then come back and tell us how it went. Did one of your intentions start moving? Did your release list surprise you?

Send your story to Reports@ParaRational.com. I read every one.
