Mothman over Italy.

Twilight Walker Photographs Winged Figure With Glowing Eyes in Italy

A walker in L’Aquila, Italy says a winged, human-shaped figure with glowing eyes glided over the trees at twilight, and they managed to take a photo before it vanished.

The report appeared on X, posted by a new account that was created just to share the sighting. The photo and the account have not been independently verified, so this is an unconfirmed report. Still, the story is a strange one, and the witness tells it in a way that feels honest.

What the Witness Says They Saw

According to the post, the witness has walked the same evening route for years and often photographs the sky and the landscape. This time, something caught their eye. At first, they thought it was a parachute drifting in the distance.

As it got closer, the shape changed. The witness describes “an unmistakably human-like silhouette, enormous wings, and two faint lights where its eyes appeared to be.” The figure seemed to glide through the air, circled now and then, and finally dropped down behind the trees. The witness watched for a short time, took several pictures, and then it was gone.

The post ends with a line that stands out: “I’m skeptical of the paranormal, but I honestly don’t know what I saw.”

A Familiar Shape in the Sky

A winged humanoid with glowing eyes will remind many readers of Mothman, the most famous winged cryptid. Mothman was reported around Point Pleasant, West Virginia in the 1960s, and those reports usually describe large red eyes. The eyes in this photo are white, so the match is not perfect. But the general outline, a dark body with big wings and two bright spots, is close enough to start the comparison.

Taking a Hard Look at the Photo

Italian Mothman Sighting

The image is small and grainy, like a heavily zoomed phone shot. It shows a dark shape with its wings spread and two bright white dots near the center. Here is where a skeptic gets curious.

The witness calls the lights “faint,” but in the picture those two spots are the brightest thing in the frame, brighter than the sky behind them. A living animal’s eyes do not normally shine like that in open air at dusk. Eyeshine needs a light pointed at the animal, and there is nothing like that here. So either the figure is making its own light, or the dots are something else, such as sensor glare, reflections, or noise from the zoom.

Size is another problem. There is nothing in the frame to give a sense of scale. A bird, a bat, or even a large insect close to the lens can look huge in a blurry shot. Even the witness’s first guess, a parachute, hints that the distance was hard to judge. A paraglider or a small drone with lights on would also be easy to misread at twilight.

You Decide

None of this proves the witness saw something ordinary. We only have one image, and the witness says they took several. We also have no way to check the original file. But the bright eyes are the part that bothers me most, because they do not match the “faint lights” in the description.

What do you think? Is this a winged creature, a trick of light, or a bird that got way too close to the camera?
