A Texas teenager and their dad were walking through a Dallas park at night when something crossed a clearing in front of them, and years later the witness is still trying to work out what it was.
The story appeared on r/Paranormal from user Firemane_999 under the title “What did I Encounter?” The witness was fourteen or fifteen at the time and says it happened many years ago.
A Pack on All Fours in a Dallas Park
The pair were on their way to help a friend when the witness caught movement out of the corner of an eye. Three or four humanoid shapes were running on all fours across a small clearing, moving from the tree line into heavy brush.
Then one of them stopped mid-sprint and stood up on two legs. Even in the dark, the witness could make out a hunched, hairless body, arms that hung past its knees, and a face that looked featureless. The eyes stood out most. They caught the moonlight “like a finely polished mirror.”
The witness says they felt no fear, only a primal sense of danger. Without thinking, they bared their teeth, growled, and held eye contact, almost like a challenge. The witness’s dad saw none of it. He only saw his kid snarling at the shadows and reaching for a pocket knife.
After what felt like forever, the creature dropped back to all fours, rejoined its pack in the brush, and vanished.
Calm in the Moment, Shaken Afterward
In the comments, the witness explained that they can more or less shut off fear when a threat appears so they can focus on it. That changed once the pair reached their friend’s place. As the adrenaline wore off, the witness says they were terrified and trying to process what they had just seen.
The witness later told another user the encounter happened somewhere in Dallas. When one commenter wondered what would have happened if the whole group had attacked, the witness replied that they would have gone down fighting. On the question of what it was, the witness sounds certain: “Whatever it was, it definitely wasn’t human and was dangerous.”
Of course, there are conventional explanations. Nighttime, peripheral vision, and a spike of adrenaline can make it hard to judge shapes in the dark. A pack of coyotes or stray dogs can move fast and low, and many animals have eyes that shine when they catch light. Memory can also shift over the years, and since the dad saw nothing, the account rests on one person’s recollection.
Still, the witness describes something specific: a pack moving low and fast, and one member that rose upright with long arms and a blank face. Whether it was a misread animal, a trick of the night, or a true cryptid, the witness clearly has not shaken it.
