A worker in Ecuador says he captured more than bananas on a late-night trip to a plantation, a pale, robed figure standing motionless on the dirt road ahead of him. The photo began circulating on social media out of the Vinces canton in Los Ríos Province, a region better known for its banana exports than its hauntings. It shows a tall white shape framed by rows of banana trees, lit by the harsh glare of a single work light. According to the man’s account, he was heading onto the property to help with an unloading when he noticed the figure standing in the road. He says it let out cries and other sounds he couldn’t explain before he lost sight of it in the dark.
The image itself is sparse on detail, which is part of what has people talking. The figure appears draped in something pale and shapeless, more suggestion than form, standing dead center on the path between the trees. There’s no visible face, no clear limbs, just a bright vertical shape against a black backdrop of foliage. Whether that reads as a ghost depends entirely on what a person is inclined to believe walking into it.
Los Ríos Province sits in one of Ecuador’s biggest banana-growing regions, and workers routinely move through these farms after dark for loading and shipping schedules. That context matters here, because it also opens the door to conventional explanations. A poncho, sheet, or piece of white work clothing catching a floodlight at the wrong angle can produce a strikingly humanlike silhouette at a distance, especially through a phone camera struggling with low light. The reported cries could just as easily trace back to nightbirds, livestock, or another worker on the property. None of that rules out something stranger, but it’s worth holding in mind.
What makes this case harder to evaluate is how little there is to go on. The account comes from a single social media post, translated from Spanish, with no independent witnesses, no follow-up investigation, and no other outlets covering it as of this writing. ParaRational was unable to verify the claim beyond the original report.
Genuine haunting or a trick of light and cloth, the photo has done its job of raising the question. Seen something you can’t explain? Email Reports@ParaRational.com.
