A British man throwing a frisbee for his dog says he accidentally filmed a missile-shaped object streaking across the sky above the Malvern Hills, and the clip has been watched millions of times.
Andrew Clifton, 40, was out on the Malvern Hills near Worcester on August 2, 2025, according to news reports, with his five-year-old Labrador, Dash. He was filming short clips as the dog chased a toy and noticed nothing unusual until he looked at the footage at home. At normal speed, the object shows up as a flash of less than a second against a cloudy sky. Slowed down, it looks tubular and missile-like, with what appears to be a blue cap at the tail.
Clifton posted the clip to UFO groups on Facebook and to X, where it passed 8 million views.
Clifton’s Theory
Clifton did not leap to aliens. He suggested that the object was more likely a high-tech military project, and reports noted that the Royal Air Force has a base near Worcester. Nobody has publicly identified the object.
The Skeptics
Online skeptics, including forum members at Metabunk, floated a more mundane culprit: a weighted dog toy with a streamer, launched from a ball thrower. They pointed out that the object looks small, and that something appearing at that size in the frame would have to be very close to the lens, which fits a thrown toy better than a large craft at a distance. Some also found the footage confusing because the sequence appears to play in reverse at one point.
The slow-motion look also matters. Slowing a clip down can turn a blurred streak into a shape that seems to have clean edges, and the human brain happily fills in the rest.
So What Was It?
Possibly just a toy, possibly a bird or debris caught at the wrong moment, and possibly something stranger. What makes it a good case study is that the evidence is a fraction of a second of video, taken by a man who was looking at his dog. That is not much to build a conclusion on, but it is plenty to build a conversation on.
