A man who had walked an abandoned Ohio Air Force station more than 100 times says that on one snowy November day he was chased across it by something see-through, something that stopped dead at the fence line as if it was not allowed to leave.
The account comes from a witness identified only as Joseph and was shared on the UFO Chronicles podcast (episode 36, published January 27, 2020). It belongs to the growing file of translucent humanoid reports, which describe beings seen as a shimmer or warp in the air in the shape of a person, often compared to the cloaked alien in the Predator films. What sets this one apart is the location, and the beeping.
A Place Everyone in Town Knew
According to Joseph, the Brookfield Air Force Station near Brookfield, Ohio, had been abandoned since about 1986 and had previously served as a nursing home. Roughly 30 empty buildings stood on ten acres of overgrown land surrounded by barbed wire. Police patrolled to keep out vandals, but locals, Joseph included, had spent much of their youth wandering the property. He believes he had been there more than 100 times. It was about a tenth of a mile from his home, through the woods, and a hole cut in the fence made access easy.
The Beeping Buildings
In November 2002, Joseph and his old friend Tory went to the base to shoot. Only Joseph was armed. Light snow covered the ground as they followed a deer path to the fence, and Joseph remembers that it was unusually quiet, with no animals, no wind, and no sound at all. At the time he did not think much about it. Looking back, it was strange enough to stick.
After crawling through the fence, they walked through knee-deep grass toward the buildings and began to hear beeping. That was odd, since the buildings had not had power since the late 1980s. As they got within five feet of one building, the beeps grew louder. Inside an open garage bay, they went wild, like a metal detector zeroing in on something. Tory became frightened.
Two doors led off the bay, and one was closed, which struck Joseph as strange because he had always seen them open. The beeping came from behind the closed door, so he kicked it in. The beeps faded and gave way to a loud droning sound. On the floor, about three feet away, sat a device that he first took for a pipe bomb. It looked like an air compressor with wires running into a black rectangular box with a cylinder attached. Joseph has no idea what it was, and wondered whether police or the Marines, who sometimes trained on the base, had left it there.
Chased Through the Snow
They decided to leave. As they walked back through the tall grass, things went very quiet, and both men stopped, sensing they were being watched. Then they heard footsteps coming through the brush. Across the field, snow was bouncing up and the grass and bushes were parting, as if something unseen were moving through them.
Joseph says he could make out the outline of a human figure, but it was transparent. He could see the brush on the other side, distorted like an optical illusion. It seemed to disappear for moments and then come back, trailing them but never getting closer than about 30 feet, except near the fence.
At one point Joseph stopped and raised his rifle. That seemed to anger it. A stand of brush about 15 feet high split open as though someone had driven a truck through it, and the figure came at them hard, snow and branches flying. Joseph says that for the first time in his life as a hunter, he felt real dread about shooting, and Tory urged him not to. They found the hole in the fence and ran through it into the woods, still watching the figure, which was now at a full sprint.
Then it stopped at the fence. It was almost as if it was not allowed to leave, Joseph said, and then it was gone, like it evaporated.
Three Weeks Later
Joseph returned with another friend about three weeks later and spent hours searching every building. They found no beeping device and never encountered the figure again. Looking back, Joseph senses it was something evil that meant to do them harm. He compares it to the creature in the Predator films, but says it was not the same.
What Another Witness Added
In the comments on the podcast video, a listener named Ian Billen said his grandmother lived in the woods behind the base on Stewart Road, and that as a kid he and his cousin sneaked in through the same fence hole. They heard the beeping too, he said, though they never learned where it came from.
He also described odd signs of life at a place that was supposed to be empty. Years after it closed as a nursing home, he says, mail was still being delivered and collected, fire hydrants were kept up to date, phones were ringing, and dogs were being kept in locked buildings. You always felt watched, he wrote, and he tied the site to the 1994 Trumbull County UFO incident. None of that has been independently verified.
The Skeptical View
An abandoned site with a long history can produce plenty of ordinary noises, from old equipment and batteries to alarms or devices that someone left behind. Snow-covered brush that is moving because of wind or an animal can read as a see-through figure to someone running scared, especially when the memory is told 17 years later and the Predator comparison is easy to reach for. The account also comes from one witness, since Tory has not told his side publicly, and there is no photo, video, or physical evidence of the device or the figure.
Still, the details are hard to shrug off: a closed door that was always open, a device that was gone three weeks later, a figure that raced across a field and stopped at a fence. If something was out there, it seems to have known exactly where the edge of its territory was.
